Today was quite a busy day. Due to a supervision meeting that all teachers should attend at 13.15, we dimsissed class earlier, i.e. at 12.30. To cope with that as quite a challenge since young children can't be rushed. They need time way longer tahan adults can for everything.
Talking about today's teaching, I taught Tilawati and Reading. Since Tilawati was the first lesson after morning meeting, it went pretty well. Actually there were two main causes to this. First, two of the most kinesthetic students were absent. Second, They were still fresh. Then They did not make many moves. We did the three steps of teaching and in the last step, as always, I let them doodle or craft while the had the one-on-one session.
Aside from Tilawati, I taught Reading. I followed the termly pelan and it worked when I came to the reading together. So, first we watched a video about "ee" sound. Then we read aloud a story that contains "ee" sound through out it, together. After that, they did the worksheet. I explained how to do it beforehand. Some of them could Finish it within 50 minutes (10 minutes shortened from the normal period due to a supervisory meeting that teachers should attend after school). Cutting and pasting seems still to be something that makes them busy with working. However, time management is still something I need to cope with.
In the supervisory meeting, the supervisor showed us how to attarct students' attention with playing a traditional bamboo flute, then begini saking questions. Another Way is by singing and doodling which is also followed by saking questions. He also added that one thing, e.g. playing the flute, can be used for different subjects such as Math, Science, Social Studies, etc.
Reflection:
1. In Tilawati, I should start with something fun like singing or telling them a story to get them interested. Next, I should be more strict with rules.
2. In Reading, starting with telling a story to catch students' attention is also a great idea. Then, be strict with time management.
3. After attending the suoervisory meeting, it's important that I should catch students' attention first before leading students to the main learning activities. The supervisor stated that when they are attracted, they are more likely to pay attention to the lesson.
