Things Done in the First Week of School
Assalaamu'alaikum. Alhamdulillah, after a 2,5 weeks of Eid al Fithr holiday, I'm back at work. Despite the slow pace, I've got things done as follow:
- Having teacher-staff syawalan on Tuesday, may 2nd, 2023. Before this main agenda, we had breakfast together in 1 Ali for about 2 hours. We ate Pak Anto's soto which is really good. Then, in the syawalan, testimony and some announcements from the Principal and Vice Principal for Academic Affairs were stated. The announcements woke us up as they reminded of how short the time we have is till the end of this academic year, which is only 1 month, while we have so much to do, be it assembly preparation, End-of-Year Exam preparation, and preparation for the next academic year. After the syawalan, we cleaned up some spots at school which urgently need cleaning, i.e. lobby area and fifth floor. Then, before the day was closed I had a meeting with Ms. Vita, which was to set a guideline for the End-of-Year Exam.
- On Wednesday, May 3rd, I started the day with continuing drafting the End-of-Year Exam Kisi-Kisi. Then, about an hour after that, I got invited to attend the production team of Assembly. We discussed a lot, particularly about the budget and spending. After this meeting, with Ms. Vita, I designed vocabulary learning and reading assessment. The vocabulary learning was designed imitating the model that I had in the school I previously worked for in Bogor. Basically, we list words according to the topics that are covered in the lessons (of all subjects if possible) in one term. It needs 35 words per term. Then, students need to write about five words per week in the LSCWC worksheet. After that, HTs need to check if the written words are correct or incorrect. Then, on the reading assessment, we designed based on the model by AIIC Queensland that Ms. Vita got. She forgot the instrument that she got from the school, but she remembered some points. Therefore, we tried to redesign our own model by referring to that model. After that, we invited the English team to talk about that and make a decision. Alhamdulillah after the meeting we came to the same agreement on the concerns. By the end of the meeting, we assigned each of us to work on the follow up steps to get them done at least before the final annual meeting.
- On Thursday, 4th May, 2023, we greeted students with a syawalan. We did it in the auditorium where we had testimony stated by Elvan 5 Umar, followed by the response by the Principal. While listening to them (psst, it's not a good thing), I edited the Assembly script for the upper grades. Then, there was a singing performance by Sabay 6 Umar. She sang a cool Arabic song that I forget the title. After that, we had namaste to symbolize apologizing and forgiving, followed by the potluck party. Alhamdulillah they were enthusiastic as they brought so much food and looked happy. When the syawalan was done, we went back to classroom for having break time, followed by home room session. I spent the time to inform students about the details of the assembly and what is coming up next week. Then came the home time. I accompanied students in the pick-up area next to the security office . Although not everyone showed up, I would say that students had a good impression about today's activity. The last thing I did was finishing drafting the End-of-Year Exam Kisi-kisi. However, once in a while I got a message from Ms. Vita to help her check the End-of-Year Exam letter and from Miss Aisyah to help her proofread the lower grades Assembly Script. Alhamdulillah, by the time it was home time, I could finish proofreading the works. However, a letter for grade 6 students came later, therefore I did the proofreading at home.
- On Friday, I started with proofreading the grade 6 End-of-Year activity early after sholat tahajjud. Then at school, I started drafting week 8 Weekly Plan. Getting it finished, I uploaded it on GC. I had Global Perspectives class to teach in 5 Ali, but I didn't prepare for it well, therefore I used it for English CCPT prep class, checking the reading and language use parts. Then I texted Zahra and her father to ask about her latest update. Alhamdulillah she is fine and will come back to school next Monday. Then I texted Ms. Bela to approach Ayundha's parents about her admission to the school. After that, I found materials to teach next week on google. Alhamdulillah I've found one each for GP and Social Studies. For Javanese, I'll find it next Monday or this weekend. Last but not least, I attended Assembly meeting in 1 Ali.
