Second Week: Warmed-Up for the Rest of the Year

Assalaamu'alaikum. Alhamdulillah, second week after Eid-al-Fitr holiday is coming. I'm already warmed-up. I believe my colleagues and students are as well. We've got our job broken down last week and starting from today, we're ready to make it true. In details, here is the list of things throughout the week:

  • On Monday, I started the day with scheduling a Javanese material that consisting of Javanese alphabet and the sandhangan. Then, I checked students' attendance. Following that, I co-led testimony and morning meeting. The morning meeting was around 10 mins late as I was waiting for more students to come. After morning meeting, I informed them about the Tilawati class spots but it was actually wrong. Then I asked somebody to help me clear it up. Then when they had Math about reflection, I read the BPI guide book. Meanwhile, I was listing things I need to write as required by the scholarship. When they were finished with Math, I taught Tilawati. As I only have 4 students I could be more focused with each of them. Even two of them could complete 3 pages, while the rest only one. After Tilawati, at break time, Ms. Tara came by to print off a worksheet for her lesson today. While waiting, we had a chit chat about the coming of somebody, another English native speaking teacher, who is going to replace Mr. Josh. Her name is Rachel, an Australian, and married to a local Yogyakartan. The plan is that she is going to come to classes next week to replace Ms. Tara while she is in Bali renewing her immigration document. Next, I helped a little bit of Ms. Bela and Miss Nita copying and stapling the EYE letters before taking my class' and that of 5 Ali's. After that, I had lunch and went to the mosque for sholat Dzuhur. It was more crowded and noisier than before Ramadhan. After sholat Dzuhur, I saw a UNY sudent who wants to know about Cambridge implementation at Al Azhar 55. When I saw and greeted her, she told me what she wanted to do, i.e. interview. And as I read her questions, I was afraid of saying the wrong answers, then lucky that there was Ms. Vita in the TR, then I asked her to be the interviewee. It went well, and ended by me telling the student which classes she wants to observe to complete her research. Done with the meeting, I went back to my classroom and helped Ms. Uswah to coach Raja practicing his part for the Assembly. Finished with all the classes and practice, I started drafting term 4 overview. Alhamdulillah I completed English already. I hope I can continue working on it tonight at home. So, for some reason I felt like not doing much today. Maybe because I only had 1 class to teach. Therefore at least I want to finish half of the term 4 overview tonight. I hope I won't get sleepy till 11. Aamiin. Despite the feeling of unaccomplished, alhamdulillah. Thanks Allah for all of your blessings today.
  • On Tuesday, in the morning, my day started quite chaotically. First, it was caused by my failure to complete the term 4 overview at home last night as I was so tired, therefore I could not wake up at night and continue doing the work. Second, I was not able to do the laundry for the same reason. Third, I did not have time to edit the Social Studies classwork to take out the worksheets which have the answer keys with them. Then, fourth, I got to school 4 minutes late as I should be waiting for my wife taking a junub bath which took a longer time. Therefore, I could manage to edit the classwork between classes, although I still left some of them with the answer key. So, today's Social Studies in 5 Ali was a little bit messed up. Then, in Javanese, I forgot to make my Lesson plan detailed, therefore, I did not teach step-by-step carefully so therefore in the beginning, some students got confused. But alhamdulillah, as the time went on and I repeated the explanation and elaborating the examples, they understood better. Whenever some mess like that occurs, I always question my state of being professional. I need to keep evaluating and making improvements with my classes of course. And today, the UNY students was observing Science class in 5 Umar and English class in 1 Ali.
  • Thursday: list KD to insert in pintro, grade students' work, finish term 4 overview, draft Week 9 weekly plan, see Ms. Vita to discuss curriculum things,
