Tuesday: Better Prepared Intensive English

Assalaamu'alaikum. Hi, journal. After a few weeks we did not do that, today we started again the Intensive English for the new teachers. It was actually supposed to be started yesterday (Monday), but I was les-prepared. Moreover, I was even late because the night before, my daughter did not sleep well. Therefore I canceled the Monday meeting.

My daughter woke up several times and cried loudly. That made my wife could not sleep as well. She needed to hug and calm her down. After the occurrence, we decided to ask for Om Bi's help by calling him at 2 a.m. Then we made an appointment to see him for my daughter's cleaning prayer. He told us that there was something which disturbed her. Therefore she cried very loudly.

After that cancellation, I promised to my self to do it anyway today. Then, during Monday, whenever I had a little bit of free time, I looked for an idea to teach Intensive English. And I found one called Two Texts (details arw on the previous post). Then I found two short texts to send the teachers via WA chat.

Then, alhamdulillah, only two teachers did not show up, i.e. Mr. Umam and Ms. Rika. Mr. Umam was leading 5 Ali's morning meeting and Ms. Rika was sick. The rest was present and did their best. So, at first, I asked them to read the text I sent them privately. Half of the class got Sex Education and the other half Digital Literacy. 

After reading, I put them in groups of three. In each group, they need to retell what they read each other. Then when they finished with the sharing information, we had a question session. I prepared the questions this morning while stapling together the English mini-quiz. In this session, they were really enthusiastic answering the questions and expressing their ideas. I love it so much. Alhamdulillah I would say that it got the teachers involved and therefore it was successful.

Aside from the Intensive English, there was a few other things that I did today:

1. Binding English Mid-term quiz and handing it in to Ms. Tara
2. Teaching Intensive English
3. Teaching 5 Ali Javanese where students wrote a simple poem
4. Teaching 5 Ali Social Studies where we discussed colonialism in Indonesia and students worked on a KWL chart
5. Finishing English term 3 rubric template
6. Proofreading Ms. Ana's Math term 3 rubric
7. Continuing proofreading English rubric term 3
8. Uploading English Term 3 Quiz on GC (both 5 Ali & 5 Umar's)

Lukanya sudah mendapat penanganan Miss Nawang (petugas UKS) dan tadi saya juga sudah mempertemukan Kak Raja dengan temannya tersebut. 10. Proofreading an announcement requested by Miss Nita:

In regard to the emerging issue about students' safety at school, SD Islam Al Azhar 55 Yogyakarta has taken several actions as follow:

• Handing in a pick-up card
• Equipping students with knowledge about self-defense
• Having CCTVs installed at the entrance and exit gates which also spotlight the surrounding areas
• Ensuring that our security guards are well-informed about the issue and act accordingly
• Ensuring that homeroom teachers always stand by in their classrooms
• Ensuring that homeroom teachers accompany students in the pick-up area at home time

Aside from these actions, we need your support to work hand in hand by:

• Printing a new pick-up card if you lost the one that we handed in (with A4-sized paper)
• Discussing with your child self-defense
• Communicating with homeroom teachers if there is a change in your child's pick-up, e.g. when you are unable to pick him/her up on time (later or earlier) or if you get someone else pick him/her up, etc.

Alhamdulillah I was really happy today. I could finishe work beyond my expectation. Thanks Allah for these blessings. Wassalaamu'alaikum.
