Sunday-Monday: The Start of another Busy Week

Assalaamu'alaikum. Hi, journal. weekend is over and it's now the time to go back to reality. And this morning I felt so tired as last night my daughter did not sleep well. Therefore my wife could not sleep as well. She needed to stay up to breastfed her and calm her down. And she has shown some signs of catching a flu. Even thinking of that has made me tired and dizzy. Not to mention the cause of my daughter's cries. My wife and I suspected something unreal. She cried out loud, closing her eyes, and did not want to get breastfed. Therefore we called Om Bi, the one we usually call when we have such an incident. Lucky that he responded and helped us with the prayers. Then, to cleanse my daughter, we made an appointment to see each other at his house in Glagahsari, Yogyakarta.

Due to the appointment, I made sure that I did everything before I left school. Basically I had two subjects to teach today, i.e. Tilawati and Global Perspectives 5 Umar. Then, in Tilawati, since Miss Anisa did not come, we made the lesson a time to do some surah memorization. Ms. Uswah helped me in 5 Umar. Between lessons, I managed to do the following things:
  1. Reminding new teachers to attend Intensive English
  2. Finding a material for them to study and printing them
  3. Carrying on grading students' work
  4. Carrying on displaying students' work
  5. Texting Ms. Vita about fastener and BC paper for portfolio cover
  6. Printing KWL chart for Social Studies
  7. Printing Numeracy Week 6 worksheet
  8. Editing the Numeracy Week 6 Classwork
  9. Confirming Ms. Vita that the information letter about SLC, field trip, and Book Days is correct
  10. Check listing Ms. Tara's attendance and absence until last week
  11. Discussing the SLC proposal with Miss Nawang
  12. Printing English Mid-term Quiz
  13. Checking students' reading
  14. Finding the materials for Intensive English:

Two Texts

This challenging task is great for more capable students and it involves reading. Having texts in front of them can make adult students feel more supported.

Choose two short texts and print them out. Print enough of each text for half of the class. Create a list of simple questions for each text and print out the same quantity.

Divide the class into two groups and hand out the texts. Hang onto the question sheets for later. One group gets one text, the second group gets the other text. The texts can be about related topics (or not).

Group members then read their texts and are free to talk about them within their group, making sure they all understand everything. After five minutes or so, take the papers away.

  • Each student is paired with someone from the other group. Each student must tell their partner everything they learned from their text. Then they must listen to (and remember) what the other student tells them about their group’s text.
  • Students return to their original groups and are given a list of questions about their original text.
  • Students are paired again, this time with a different person from the other group. Each student must test their partner using the questions about the text—which their partner never read and was only told about. Likewise, the students quizzing their partners must answer questions about the text they were told about.

Another day use two different texts and try this activity again. Students do remarkably better the second time!

=====

Alhamdulillah, after school I could manage to see Om Bi as we agreed. Other than that, alhamdulillah I could manage to do all the work I needed to do today well, even including preparation for Tuesday's lessons and Intensive English. Thanks Allah. Have a good rest journal. Aamiin. Wassalaamu'alaikum.
