Monday: Restarting Intensive English for Teachers

Assalaamu'alaikum. Alhamdulillah, I'm back on Monday. Although I'm a little bit sick today, since I have a cough, I'm pretty excited because I'll start teaching the Intensive English for teachers again. An idea came across my mind this morning to give the teachers a sort of reading comprehension test as some of them are homeroom teachers whose job is to check students' reading log. Once I got to my classroom I turned on the computer and had breakfast. Then searched a worksheet of grade 3, because some it's the middle class that they teach grade 4, 3, 2, and 1. Twinkl.com is my savior of all times. When I was searching, I found some suitable worksheets, but I chose the short one entitled "Why the Koala Has a Stumpy Tail" as we had only 30 minutes. However, it turned out that the text was too easy for the teachers. They could finish it in less than 10 minutes. I might neglect the fact that even though the don't speak English fluently, they don't have zero English. They have started learning English since in junior high school. Then next time, I need to be more careful in considering teachers' proficiency. Alhamdulillah the class went well despite the little mistake. And because it was way too easy, we spent the rest of the time discussing problems in class. Miss Alvita asked me about the correct translation to masjid, while she used mosque in class. I said that it is a matter of preference. Some people in the UK use mosque, but I personally would use masjid instead. Even Miss Farah added that mosque is the shortened form of mosquito. Therefore, masjid is the better choice.

Aside from that first meeting of the day, I have several other things to do:

  1. Printing week 5 weekly plan
  2. Checking students' work
  3. Grading students' work
  4. Preparing a worksheet for today's GP class in 5 Umar
  5. Asking students to write learning journal
  6. Informing students about Book Day 2023
  7. Checking students' reading log

=====

Alhamdulillah when I called it a day, I could finish almost all the items on the list but informing students about the Book Days 2023. However, there were other things unlisted that I did, i.e. meeting with Ms. Vita to discuss the preparation for SLC and term 4 Curriculum Day and meeting with Ms. Ana to talk about the preparation for field trip.

Note:

There's a little bit of tension between our principal and the vice principals due to different perspectives. In this case, the jargon 'appreciating differences' does not apply as it has to do with the basic principles of the School's visions and mission. I don't know if it's good to argue over it as it raises next question, who is being not open minded?
