Culturally Unique Thursday: The First Time To Wear 'Surjan' and 'Blangkon'

Assalaamu'alaikum. So, today feels special. Why? Because it's gonna be the first day for us to wear a traditional costume. Why we should do that? Because, according to the Sleman Education Office policy, all people working or studying in any fields of work should wear Javanese traditional costume. The one for the male consists of a top shirt called 'surjan' and a hat called 'blangkon'. If possible, 'jarik' for the bottom outfit. Then, for female, a 'kebaya' combined with 'jarik' as well.

In general, this culture has long been applied to other institutions. And this year is special as Asram Foundation, who manages our school, responds to that positively. And now, here we are with our traditional costume today. Since it's the very first day, some student might not be wearing 'jarik' yet because it's not as easy as the 'surjan' to wear it. But at least we've tried to act according to the policy and therefore we are preserving our heritage, i.e. the traditional costume.

Aside from this excitement, here is the to-do list:
  1. Discussing with students several issues: Fairel's attitudes, reading log, cleanliness, responsibility
  2. Asking for Mr. Risal's permission to leave school tomorrow to go to campus
  3. Finishing drafting Week 5 Weekly Plan
  4. Finishing drafting Term 3 Overview
  5. Checking Social Studies work
=====

Alhamdulillah after the day endes, I've been able to complete most of the to-do list. However, there was a few other unpredicted issues I needed to handle, e.g. first, the fact that a woman is urging the School to reopen the admission while we're closed due to the fully-booked seats. However, this woman, who also has another child who has been attending the School-now she's in grade 2- named Allea, texted a few teachers, even the Jam'iyyah President to urge us to reopen it after being initially informed by our admin officer. This insistence has been making me totally annoyed. It was her fault to not to get updated with our latest information. Our social media is active. When she didn't have time to get updated, was it then on us she could put the blame on? However I thanked a lot to Miss Nita to put her child on the waitlist. At least she stopped troubling us for a moment.

Then, second, Ms. Vita shared with us a very big scandal done by AA Junior High students where there was a girl invited a boy to have sex via WA chat. She asked the boy to buy a condom first. It got Ms. Iyut very angry. And it shocked me very much. I never expected that an AA student would do that but in fact there was a few. Therefore we plan to have a meeting to find ways to cope with that. We need to stop it from happening in the future. Aamiin.
